Origami Box

Thought I would do a bonus post this weekend as its Christmas.

After my box post last weekend I found a new easier way to make a box that turns out a lot better and thought I would share the instructions so apologies for the picture heavy post.

1. Start of with a square piece of card/paper, don't use to thick card as it won't fold as neatly. For this I just used printer paper I cut to a square so I could easily show the process.

2. Mark a cross in the middle of the square with a ruler.

3. Fold all of the corners of the paper into the middle of the cross.

4. Unfold two opposite corners. on the remaining folded corners take the folded edge to the middle of the cross. It should look like the below.

5. Unfold this and repeat with the other corners that were unfolded in the previous step.

6. Unfold the sheet and should be as below.

7. We then need to get the scissors out, nothing needs to be removed but just a few slits. Hard to describe but the below shows.

8. Now there are two larger sides and the top and bottom are skinnier. I use a bit of double sided tape of a glue mouse that will effectively join the two large sides along the cross line. Then the tip of the corners can be brought to the middle like in step 3.

9. Then put a little glue on the side flaps - one on each side below is a close up.

10. Bring up the sides of the folded corners and the tabs in making sure the glued tabs are behind the non glued and stick to the tabs on the other side.

11. The remaining corners need to have a strip of glue on them to keep them in place and they just fold over the top and into the box so all the 4 corners are inside the box.

The top of the box is made just the same except when folding the folded corners to the centre you leave a little gap like the below.

This will allow the lid to sit over the bottom snug.
Once you know how easy it is to make you can do anything, stamp the paper/card before assembling the box is one that I have done below for a Xmas box.
